New Trends for Using Lthd in Road and Train Tunnels for Fire Detection
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Line type heat detectors (LTHD) are used since many years in road tunnels for reliable fire detection. Today various systems as semiconductor sensor cables, fiber-optic sensor cables, and pneumatic copper tube systems are in use. In addition, after first pilot installations done in the last years, the demand for applications of LTHD in railroad and metro tunnels as well as in underground stations is increasing. Today LTHD are installed in high-speed train tunnels in Spain, in train and metro tunnels in the Netherlands, and planned in metro networks in Singapore and Moscow. What can be learned from the road tunnel experience and what is new in rail tunnels? In parallel, the request for systems with high availability and reliability is growing as well. Due to the increased safety requirements system failures are no longer tolerated. MTBF values and maximum false alarm rates are frequently discussed. Several guidelines as German RABT or Swiss tunnel fire detection guideline define some specifications for the availability of LTHD. The requirements in different countries are compared and discussed, resulting in a proposal for a uniform specification.

Determining the Spatial Location of Lookout Towers in Rapid Forest Fire Detection Using Geographic Information System (GIS)
Degradation of forests by fire has several environmental and socio-economic impacts and causes a disruption in the balance of ecosystems. Thus, rapid identification of fire using fires detection towers is necessary to reduce destructive effects in forests. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the identification of best and optimal locations to install fire detection towers using Digital Elev...
متن کاملA New Investigation on Tunnel Pool Fire Phenomenon Using CFD Technique
In this study, the amount of generated pool fire, as a result of the release of chemicals in the case of an accident in tunnels, was simulated and the results were compared to the experimental data. At first, various amounts of spatial resolution (R*) were considered to compare the existing experimental data at different heights at the upstream, downstream and above the pool fire...
متن کاملQuantitative Risk Assessment Model for Fire in Road Tunnels with Parameter Uncertainty
Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) models have already been developed and used to assess various risks of road tunnels, including the societal risk and expected number of fatalities (ENF). Fire in a road tunnel is considered as the most severe disaster in that road tunnel is an enclosed space. The risk assessment for fire in road tunnels involves a number of parameters. Some of these parameters...
متن کاملEstimation of rear-end vehicle crash frequencies in urban road tunnels.
According to The Handbook of Tunnel Fire Safety, over 90% (55 out of 61 cases) of fires in road tunnels are caused by vehicle crashes (especially rear-end crashes). It is thus important to develop a proper methodology that is able to estimate the rear-end vehicle crash frequency in road tunnels. In this paper, we first analyze the time to collision (TTC) data collected from two road tunnels of ...
متن کاملThe role of optimal site selection of fire stations in urban safety
Constructing new urban facilities requires precise study of the proper sitting in different parts of a city. The first point for the accurate allocation of urban facilities, is to select the optimal site regarding different conditions and it matters when it comes to important factors such as saving lives and safety of the people. Therefore, the optimal site selection of fire stations is essenti...
